WHO WE ARE
Youth Microcredit International YMCI” is a student run organization looking to make a difference by loaning small amounts of money to businesses wanting to develop and grow.
High school students are starting clubs in their schools to spread awareness and raise money to invest in microfinance. Currently, YMCI is helping Guatemalan microentrepreneurs by providing them with Internet training, and selling their handicrafts to the international market.
OUR MISSION
With YMC, youth learn about lending and credit while becoming aware of the challenges of the poor. They will also develop an understanding of how market economies work and the values and customs of different cultures. This program incorporates learning in many different disciplines and allows students to develop skills in developing and giving presentations.
Youth from countries where micro lending is occurring become local ambassadors, helping to identify where micro credit is making a difference and provide information on local small business activities to their international partners. If appropriate, they may also set up programs in their schools or communities. They will also serve as the hosts for visiting youths from other chapters.
YPO/WPO RELATIONSHIP
YMCI currently operates under the PAN (Presidents Action Network) umbrella, we are creating a model program to engage youth in making a difference through micro lending. Within YPO and WPO there is a great opportunity to create networks of youths, who become micro lending ambassadors and create programs in their schools or communities. YPO and WPO chapters throughout the world might also wish to create family micro credit clubs and/or joint chapter partnerships with the same goals in mind.
