Twenty youths and twenty adults traveled to Guatemala, March 17 – 21, 2006 and partnered with youth and adults from the YPO Guatemalan chapter to visit micro credit sites and photograph the experience. In Jaibalito Village on Lake Atitlán we saw sixteen women receive credit for the first time.
In the process of putting the Guatemalan trip together we discovered HELPS and the Onil stove. These stoves burn significantly more efficiently, with less fuel, less smoke in the homes, and a cleaner environment. HELPS is setting up a relationship with Genesis Empresarial, a local MFI, so that people could borrow money and pay the loan back rather quickly with the savings on the wood.)
